Dear All,

I am running some simulations in fluent in a single 16 processor Computer. I want to know how to run simulation in background via the command line through cygwin interface in windows 10. I have some experience in running background simulation for Converge CFD software and not with Fluent.

I came through this article while checking for Fluent. https://www.me.psu.edu/cimbala/learn...background.htm. With respect to this, I have created case and data file for every frequent iterations using autosave option in fluent.

1. I want to know how to enable fluent in cygwin? If not cygwin, how to run fluent in background without graphical interface as said in above article. ( I haven't tried running in cmd).

2. What settings need to be done in fluent parallel setup before running the simulation? Is there any MPI setting to be done. ?

3. Is the journal file in the article correct? If not, how it should be written ?

Please help me out with this as it will save a lot of time and will also help me understand running ansys fluent in a computational way.

in cmd I think fluent.exe may have '-g' option just like it does when I run it at a high performance computing facility on a Linux


the parallelization is done via the '-t' option again see https://www.sharcnet.ca/Software/Ans...up_option.html (check this for your version, this is for 16.2.3) and other examples like https://docs.pace.gatech.edu/software/fluent/

you don't need to save case data files on each iteration (timestep) it's up to you.

Thank you very much for your reply. I understood the working method. But I am not able to start fluent in cmd or cygwin. It shows the following error:

'fluent' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

What I understood from this is that fluent in not installed in the cmd. How do I go with this? I tried searching for this, But i am unable to find a solution.

Once I get fluent working in cmd, I think I can run with commands given in the articles shared by you. Also, If you know the same working installation in cygwin, it would be helpful.

1. you need to define windows environment variable PATH = path to fluent
or
2. to to your working folder, save there case file manually, than you can execute not fluent, but this case file

Hi,

I tried putting fluent path folder to PATH of Environment variables. But, the commands are still not working. The below is the fluent path. I have installed Ansys in E drive so is this the correct path for fluent in Environment variables?

E:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v181\fluent\bin

Please help me out with this.
