Hey guys,

I just started to use ANSYS Fluent for a project in the university.

My case is a rectangular container filled with gallium. Top and bottom wall are adiabatic and the metal is heated from the left side wall and cooled from the right side wall. (see picture below)

I created the mesh and started with the simulation setup.

I was thinking that due the melting this should be treated a multiphase problem using VOF. Am I right?

If this is correct how am I supposed to setup proper settings for this simulation regarding for example the material. My problem is that in the beginning there is only one phase, the solid gallium, but Fluents wants to know two phases before starting the simulation.

What is my error in reasoning?

Heyy !! I am also in a similar kind of situation. I have to simulate the melting of a soild with embedded particles of high melting point. Thus upon melting, I'll get a mixture of pure melt with solid particles embedded in it.

Would anybody please help me with any relevant details for the simulation. I am using Fluent for this purpose.

i thk you should see the other solver may be meltFOAM in openFoam. Fluent may not give you correct result as the domain will have dynamic mesh and single phase which over a period of time changes to liq/solid depending upon the heat transfer... i hope meltFOAM will work for you..
