hi,

in my problem there is a hollow cylinder with fluid passing through the hollow space and convective boundary condition at the outer wall of the cylinder.

earlier i was using density based solver, but i realized i want to neglect to the effect of buoyancy.so through some searching on net i found out for that i need to solve the flow and energy equations separately.

so i initially i was turning off the energy equation and solving the flow and turbulence equations and when they converged turned on the energy equation and turned off flow and turbulence equation in solution controls window in fluent.

in doing so energy equation takes 2-3 more iterations to converge but when i check the total heat balance,it gives a large residual.

can anyone help me to find out what i am doing wrong?

thnx in advance.

Why density based? Are you solving forced or free convection?
If forced, solving flow and energy independantly does not help. Bouyancy is neglected by not activating gravity.

hi Luke, thnx for your reply.

this is a forced convection problem. i haven't activated gravity,so buoyancy is not activated.

but can you tell me how can i solve the energy equation separately without flow equations?

thnx in advance.
