Hello everyone,

I'm new here and rather intermediate/beginner in CFD. After hours of digging through help and internet I've came up with an idea that the problem I try to solve might not be of simple type.

Firstly, please find attached part of geometry and mesh pictrue:

A heat sink with fluid and two solid plates one after another right behind the sink base. There are three different solid materials in total.

As the mesh is loaded to fluent and material types are set, a notification appears, saying that Warning: zone of type interior found between different solids! As recomended I perform /mesh/modify-zones/slit-interior-between-diff-solids via TUI command and this creates new shadow-zones. Works fine.

Now the problem:
I want to optimize solution in terms of variant geometrical parameters through Response Surface Optimization. Each time I change geometry a new mesh is designed, but once it is loaded to fluent there appears that "mesh information is not compatibile with model information" witch is due to yet not designed shadow-zones, I guess. The mesh is redrawn correctly, so I exclude problems there.

The question is: how to avoid manual setting of /mesh/modify-zones/slit-interior-between-diff-solids and make it automatic for each mesh loaded.

I have already tried:

- to set named selections at connections (faces) between each solid named interior-... and shadows for each. Result: fluent cannot load overlapping selections,

- to set named selections at connections (faces) between each solid named wall-.... Result: shadows were created automaticly, however, despite the fact I've set a coupled thermal conditions, no heat transfer was observed,

- to ignore the Warning what as expected gave incorrect results.

I work on Ansys v. 15

I'm looking badly for some idea.

Best regards,
Paweł

Hi Pawel,
so the problem is that you are fixing the mesh every time in fluent instead in the preprocessor to have the shadow walls.
From the pictures you attached I think you are using the ansys mesher, which I don't use.
But if you search the forum you can (probably) find some interesting posts about setting a mesh in the preprocessor with coupled walls.

For example:

Let us know if this solves your problem.

Thanks for quick reply.

The preprocessor creates all the shadow zones at fluid-solid interfaces. The problem is that it does not create them for solid-solid interfaces, what I have to fix manually in fluent.

I have whole model formed as one part and shared topology as well in DM, so unfortunately this does not solve the problem.

EDIT:

ghost82, after your post I've figured out that if whole model is modelled as one part, then it might be the reason why solid-solid shadows do not appear (during preprocessing fluent treasts solids as one body).

So that I've created 3 separate parts, but this is neither a solution (just some additional wall-[number] and contact regions appeard).

I've come across the same problem. Any solutions? Thanks
