Hello,
I'm analyzing a complete aircraft body in FLUENT 16. I have a question which is really basic but had me confused. I have my aircraft body in a rectangular control volume. Aircraft body is complete there is no symmetry condition. Which boundary conditions should I apply to the faces of control volume? Velocity-Inlet for the face in front of the aircraft OK Pressure-Outlet for the face behind of of the aircraft OK How about the other 4 faces (side, top, bottom faces of control volume). I set them also velocity-inlet is that right? I'm changing the velocity component to obtain angle of attack like x=35 m/s and y=5 m/s z=0. Will this create a problem, should I rotate the body for each AoA? Thanks, |

Dear Erdem; Welcome to the CFD community It is common to have simple doubts in this field. So do not worry about it. On your first doubt: You are right there. You can use velocity inlet for these faces. Another option is to use pressure - far field. if you are doing transonic flow then this is a must I guess ( to have pressure far field instead of velocity inlet). On your second doubt: Changing X and Y velocities will lead to correct angle of attack and correct results. So this method is easier and preferred a lot. If you want to use the other method that's fine too. But I would say changing X and Y velocities will make your work easier and is as reliable as the other option in this case. Best regards Shereez |

Hello Shereez,
Thanks for your reply, you made me relieved I am continuing analysis with those settings. Regards, Erdem |
