Hello all, firstly some background upon myself. I am currently studying a MEng degree in mechanical engineering and as a part of a project I will need to model a CFD scenario within a circular pipe that is set to deform. It is based upon the compression of the pipe to reduce its cross sectional area at a point and for it to then if possible return to its original cross sectional area.
An example scenario for reference is a 150mm length circular pipe with a consistent cross section of 20mm. The inlet speed is a consistent fluid of 1m/s. The aim would be to reduce the cross section to 10mm over a period of time from which it can then return to the original geometry. I am a novice at Fluent and can only run simple analysis at this current moment. What I am asking is how the pipe deformation could be modeled in Fluent. It would require the pipe wall compression over a period of time from which changes in values can be found. Is it completed using the moving wall tool or is a dynamic mesh needed to be setup? Are there any guides which highlight a similar scenario/technique as the ones I have found thus far have not been beneficial? Will a 2D or 3D scenario be best for modelling based upon my previous Fluent Experience? (Is the step to 3D dynamic modelling a large gap to bridge?) Overall just some potential pointers/confirmation that the task can be completed would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all in advance Matthew |
