How to create a laser shadow when it irradiates to a spherical powder.

Hi friends, I am trying to model a heat source model which has a shadow where the laser can’t reach. The scheme is like the attachment.

I tried a method that to trace the interface. But I must get the maximal z coordinates and apply the heat source at this position. But in the macro DEFINE_ADJUST, it’s very difficult to get the maximal z. Also, I use the melting&solidification model, so the powder can be melted when it reach the liquid temperature. The interface should change during the calculation.

How can I solve this problem. It’s very important for my simulation. Can anyone help me. Thank you!
