Default Boundary Layer Mesh in GAMBIT

Hi!

I would like to use an unstructured mesh around a boundary layer attached to the surface of the aerofoil in Gambit.

But I am having some problems creating a satisfactory boundary layer on meshing. I import the geometry and create two faces (one for the upper surface and one for the lower). Each face contains the area above/below the aerofoil and upstream and downstream of the airfoil.

I can successfully create an unstructured mesh without a boundary layer on each of these faces. I can successfully define a b.layer on the surface. But if I use a b.layer and try to use an unstructured mesh to mesh the face, although the mesh is successfully generated, the b.layer becomes progressively more deformed as one moves from the leading to the trailing edge of the airfoil. Each column of the b.layer becomes progressively more skewed towards the leading edge of the airfoil. At the trailing edge, the elements are extremely skewed.

Does anyone know a way around this problem, or a way to avoid it completely (by meshing in a different way)?

Many Thanks

Jane

Thanks for the quick reply Ralf!

However, unfortunately I have broken the airfoil up into a leading-edge, central and trailing-edge section. It would be very difficult to match the edge mesh on the other side of each face and I would prefer to keep the aerofoil edge mesh split into three parts so that I can increase the mesh density near the leading and trailing edges.

Thanks again

Jane
