Dear all,

I will be very glad if anyone can suggest/recommend some open source code or libraries which can deal with multiphase pipe flows. Python-based libraries would be perfect. Basically, I want to do a simple pipe flow analysis. I have point A ( where temperature, velocity, liquid, and gas concentration is specified) and I need to know the information in point B ( pressure drop, temperature, liquid and gas concentration, etc) by taking into accoi=unt pipe geometry ( bending, roughness, diameter). Basically this is a kind of simple problem of fluid mechanics.

many thanks and best wishes

Hi Rusham,

I almost don't have experience with multiphase flows, but I'm pretty sure openFOAM will do the work. It has many solvers with their tutorial cases, which you can check and learn from them to select the most appropriate solver and setup your own case. Anyway, you'll have to devote many days/weeks in order to learn to use OF, so it won't help you very much if you're in a rush.

The scene for open source 1D codes (which, I guess, is what you are looking for) is not quite up to the level of the 3D one. However, in the years, I found the following resources:

Epanet - https://www.epa.gov/water-research/epanet
OpenWam - https://www.cmt.upv.es/OpenWam.aspx
This other one I haven't understood the name - https://web.eng.fiu.edu/arleon/Pipe_Network.html
This python module I don't know if it is linked to anything like a real 1D fully functional code - https://pypi.org/project/fluids/

But their multiphase capabilities are to be assessed, if present at all
