Mesh refinement near points in gmsh

I have a three-dimensional geometry imported from Solidworks as a step file (for now, a hollow sphere of finite thickness). I want to increase the resolution of the mesh around certain points on the surface of the sphere. I heard that this could be done simply by adding syntax like

Code:

Point(11) = {52.69, 0, 0, 0.01};

to the step file or an associated .geo file and then opening it again and regenerating the mesh, but this doesn't seem to refine the mesh near the point.

What's the right way of doing this?

Due to compatibility needs with other software, I am using gmsh 2.16.0.

I am trying to d the same thing.
GMSH seem not to recongise the point that i manually added.
Do you have obtained the answer to your question?
