Hi all,

I have a problem with the Feature refinement in snappyHexMesh.

I have reduced the complexity to the following:
- If I want to mesh a simple barrel, everything works fine.
- If I want to mesh the same barrel with an additional .stl file for the inlet, everything works fine.
- If I want to mesh the same barrel with an .stl file for the outlet instead of the inlet, everything works fine.
- However, if I want to mesh the barrel + inlet + outlet, snappyHexMesh stucks during Feature refinement iteration 0 (see attached screenshot). No progress even after many hours of waiting.
- If I decrease the length of the barrel by scaling the .stl files in the length direction, everything works fine even for barrel + inlet + outlet.

To sum up, I have the issue that snappyHexMesh Feature refinement iteration 0 runs infinitely long, without throwing an error message.
The problem is somehow related to the size of the geometry.

I hope that someone has a same issue and can help me.

Hey,


Is your initial background mesh large enough to cover the whole STL? Make sure it is slightly larger.


Are the STLs watertight? Meaning the STLs come from the same surface mesh.


Can you share your snappyHexMeshDict and a view of your geometry (with Paraview displaying the background mesh and the STLs in the same viewport)? It can help people diagnose the issue.
