Default confused about perturbU(the formula in the source code used)

As in Eugene's PhD thesis, the parabolic profile is modified by

here, as in the reference paper"Coherent structure dynamics in near-wall turbulence, Schoppa,1999", the profile's maximum streak is at y+=30, while in the perturbU code:
 U[celli][streamDir] +=
                (utau * duplus/2.0) * (yplus/40.0)
                * Foam::exp(-sigma * Foam::sqr(yplus) + 0.5)
                * Foam::cos(betaPlus*zplus)*deviation;
so in the code, the maximum streak is at y+=40 if I didn't misunderstood. How and why the position where exists maximum streak is chosen, and also the zplus and xplus? I can't find any information about this in these two papers.
