Hi all.

I'm trying to learn OpenFoam and am making my way through the User Guide.
All good so far, but seems like I do not have the foamInfo utility, which seems to be a handy tool.

When I try to run it in a case directory I get "foamInfo: command not found".

Sorry, this seems like a very basic question... But a web search doesn't give any helpful results.
Am I missing something?
Any hints appreciated.

I'm on Ubuntu 18.04LTS through a WSL on Win10.
OpenFoam version: v1912

Many thanks!

foamInfo script belongs to the Foundation OpenFOAM, not v1912.

Hi Manuel,

Have a look on wyldckat's post here : OpenFOAM.com versus OpenFOAM.org: Which version to use?

And look here for an overall view of OpenFOAM's world.

Cheers,
Yann

Hi,

The hierarchy contains significant errors, I'm afraid. For example, Wikki Ltd. and OpenCFD Ltd. existed before OpenFOAM Foundation, approximately ten years, - also there is no Nabla Ltd. mentioned there, which existed before all of them. Also, the fork diagrams contain errors.

OpenFOAM-Wikipedia.

Anyways who cares? It is open-source software.

Thanks guys!
The hierarchy chart might be erroneous, but it give a good top level picture of whats going on, and at this point the details are too much for me to grasp anyways.
I found it super helpful.

So now that I have v1912 can I simply install v7 on its side?
Or will that lead to a mess?

You can install any number of any variant of OpenFOAM with any different number of compilers and mpi - it will not cause any mess. Have search the forum - it has been extensively discussed.
