Hi!
I am trying to study flow over cylinder in OpenFoam at different Reynold numbers. I have run simulation using icoFoam at Re 1000 and 100 with different end times. According to literature, von karman vortices begin to form at Re 90-100 and until Re 40, symmetrical and attached vortices are formed behind cylinder. Now the problem is, in both of my simulations using icoFoam at Re 1000 and Re 100, attached symmetrical vortices are formed behind cylinder. How do I get boundary separation of un-symmetrical vortices behind cylinder using icoFoam at Re 100? Can icoFoam correctly capture von karman vortices at laminar Re numbers? I am using U=1m/s , dia of cylinder is 1 m with nu of 0.001. I kept the upper and lower boundaries as patches and not walls. Would appreciate any guidance Thanks! Edit: I was able to capture von karman vortices just by increasing end time Last edited by B_R_Khan; March 19, 2021 at 01:52. |

I made a tutorial in OpenFOAM. You can download the files located in GitHub: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1YQ9eZQFcg
