Hello

I am trying to run the adjoint optimisation tutorial for sensitivity maps using the motorbike tutorial, included in v2206. (/incompressible/adjointOptimisationFoam/sensitivityMaps/motorBike).
This however after a while crashes, not only the VMWare guest running Ubuntu 22.04, but also the host system.
I could not find any error messages, but the output in the log.adjointOptimisationFoam file ends as per below after running for a while.

Code:
Time = 1807

smoothSolver: Solving for Uax, Initial residual = 7.12331e-07, Final residual = 2.35622e-08, No Iterations 2
smoothSolver: Solving for Uay, Initial residual = 1.51601e-05, Final residual = 4.96938e-07, No Iterations 2
smoothSolver: Solving for Uaz, Initial residual = 1.10092e-05, Final residual = 3.63769e-07, No Iterations 2

The memory usage is well within what has been made available to the guest system, going by the evolution in the systems monitor when running.

This behaviour has been repeated several times.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

The case was run on:
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS on VMware workstation 16, windows10 host, 20 processors and 16-24GB memory

Kind regards
Patrik

Hello All,
This was resolved and the reason for crash was hardware related. More specifically a lack of power to the CPU and/or lack of cooling triggering a "kernel-power 41" error and shutting down the system when using too many cores with too high load.

Kind regarsd
