Hello All,

I am running a VAWT case using pimpleFoam with moving mesh (AMI). The pre-processing (mesh, physics, BCs, solvers) is apparently correct and the solution is running well. However, the results are strange on the interface side. We can clearly see the velocity gradients between the stationary and rotating regions that are not physically accepted. When looking at the "plot over line" we can see the velocity discontinuity between the stationary and rotative frames. Please find attached some images to illustrate the issue.

I have run a propeller case before using the same setup and the results were much better.

Have you seen such kind of behavior before? Any idea how I can improve this?

Hi,

Very well explained. Just wanted to know are the mesh regions conformal at interface? As, such it is not required but can result in good results. Also, do you have any results, research, other commercial software results to compare? If not then a good idea to check in other tools also.

Hi,
The mesh is non-conformal. It's not necessary to be conformal due to the rotating movement. I did some research and I've seen that is more usual to find this kind of case in 2D. It sounds like that the 3D model is more difficult to converge.
