Hi I just wanted to ask if there was a limit to the number of cells, and if it's related to the hardware I'm on. Just for context in the details below, L33 is the computer name of my office issued laptop with the specs
Intel i7-10750H CPU @ 2.6 GHz; 6 cores; 12 logical processors

To illustrate, if I create a large domain as such:

B 1 0.05
B 10 0.0 16.0 0.0 7.0 0.0 8.0

I get the error

"starting ini
creating objects
probepoint_num 3
Primary job terminated normally, but 1 process returned a non-zero exit code. Per user-direction, the job has been aborted. mpirun noticed the process rank 4 with PID 0 on node L33 exited on signal 9 (Killed)."

So it works up to that point before the error.

But if I make the domain 1m smaller in one direction:
B 10 0.0 16.0 0.0 7.0 0.0 7.0

it gets a bit further
"starting ini
creating objects
etc etc
[then at the first time step]
1
simtime:0
Primary job terminated normally, but 1 process returned a non-zero exit code. Per user-direction, the job has been aborted. mpirun noticed the process rank 4 with PID 0 on node L33 exited on signal 9 (Killed)."

And only proceeds to the simulation if the domain is at:
B 10 0.0 15.0 0.0 7.0 0.0 6.0

Is this due to my limited hardware, or is there an actual cap in cells? Or something else entirely that I am not yet familiar with?

Hi Ismael,

could you upload the input files? Then I can have a look.

Good afternoon Prof Hans,

Thanks, here are the files; the ones without a suffix are able to run on my laptop.

Unfortunately, I was not able to reproduce your error. So I would guess it is more of a local issue.
Although, I would be interested to know the partition output you get towards the end of the Divemesh run and also the actual partition of the domain. The latter you can look at using the output in the DIVEMesh_Paraview folder.

I guess it is a local issue; when I adjusted it further to
B 10 0.0 15.0 0.0 7.0 0.0 8.0
it still works. I was having trouble with an apparent vortex occurring at the end of the domain, and I thought it might be because of the relatively small head clearance, which is why I was trying to increase my initial domain.

I've attached a screenshot of the domain with the partitions.

I tried this again with a new domain created from scratch, and it does indeed look like a limitation on my hardware that there is an upper limit to the number of cells.

Hi Ismael,

which system do you use to run the simulations? It sounds more like an OS limitation, maybe you use virtualization?

Good morning Prof Hans,

Yes, I am using the Ubuntu app for Windows 10; specifically
Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS (GNU/LInux 5.10.16.3-microsoft-standard-WSL2 x86_64)

Edit:
And only 16 GB of RAM
