Hi,
I'm trying to simulate contact between a piece of looped string and a cuboid with a perfect negative of that string. I'm applying a pressure to the negative surface so that the looped string is squeezed by the negative (see picture 1). I chose a static general simulation, as I there are no transient effects here (though I have heard that explicit/implicit models have an easier time solving simulations with any form of contact). I defined a master-slave contact between the pair with penalty and lagrange (picture 4). I constrained my model at both ends. The mesh is fine on the surface of the string and on the walls of the negative. I have also defined self contact so the string doesnt move through itself. I have got some convergence (picture 3) but find the time step required is extremely small (unfeasible to run for the amount of time required), and the simulation runs an error after a very small load. Is there a better way to set up this simulation? Thanks |
