Hi,
I am new to SU2 and have worked through a few of the tutorial cases posted on the SU2 site page. Though I haven't seen it explicitly mentioned anywhere, it seems that the file (.dat or .vtk) that is output for post-processing is a time-averaged mean flow field, since I can see solutions being posted in the command line for each time-step/iteration. Is there any way to have SU2 output instantaneous flow field data for each of these iterations rather than only obtaining the mean flow field file? If this is not actually a mean file, could someone clarify what exactly is being output? Thanks. |

Hi,
By default, SU2 operates in steady mode, i.e., it will integrate the equations toward a steady solution while outputting a set of files at a chosen frequency (WRT_SOL_FREQ option). In steady mode, this is the solution state at the current iteration, but note that this will not correspond to a physical time due to local time stepping during integration (each control volume will use its maximum allowable time step to increase convergence). The set of output files (flow volume, flow surface, restart, etc.) will be overwritten at the specified frequency until the simulation terminates. However, in unsteady, or time-accurate, mode, SU2 will output solution files that correspond to the physical time steps, and these solutions will not be overwritten (they will have the iteration number appended before the extension). The frequency can also be controlled for the unsteady output with the WRT_SOL_FREQ_DUALTIME option. Hope this helps, Thomas D. Economon SU2 lead developer |
