Hello everybody,

I am trying to run a simulation where a Shockwave turbulent boundary layer interaction occurs at M=2.9. In the reference paper (DNS and LES) they indicate that periodic BCs are used in the spanwise direction but I have no idea how to specify this in the grid and cfg file.

Can anyone help me about this? I attached a picture where I marked the BCs I specified. I am using a symmetry BC for sideways right now. Would it make too much difference in the solutions?

Hi,

The option of periodic boundary marker may help you. I attach the setting below, you can find it in "config_template.cfg" too.

% Periodic boundary marker(s) (NONE = no marker)
% Format: ( periodic marker, donor marker, rotation_center_x, rotation_center_y, rotation_center_z, rotation_angle_x-axis, rotation_angle_y-axis, rotation_angle_z-axis, translation_x, translation_y, translation_z, ... )
MARKER_PERIODIC= ( NONE )

Also note that if you need to capture the velocity fluctuations in the transverse direction in DNS, you need a very fine mesh with cells the size of the Kolmogorov length scale. If you want to reproduce the results with RANS, then you can probably use a 2D plane

I know that there is a Marker for that in SU2 but I don't know where or what should be the periodic marker or donor marker since there is no document about this in SU2 webpage.
Also I have no idea what should I write as an input for the remaining parts (rotation_center_x, rotation_center_y, ....) since there is no information about such things in the references I have.

DNS is waay too much for my computer and for my current knowledge on the matter I am trying to see if SU2-RANS is able to capture the complex compressible flow effects with 3D geometry.
In the literature it is constantly mentioned that RANS does not give correct results for STBLIs compared to DNS and LES and I just want to see if current CFD softwares we have, which is SU2, could give some correct results.

I am having some troubles with 3D geometry right now so I will probably give a shot to reproduce the results with a 2D geometry as well
