I did a transient simulation, and I got a .trn file, and I want to use that .trn file as an initial condition for the next calculation, and I'm using -continue-from-file, and I tried -continue-from-file chushi.trn, But the system says trn file is invalid, I wonder if this command can't use trn file as initial condition, if not, what can i do, I can't use visual interface, must use command line.

Opaque will become famous soon enough
You can definitely use a <number>_full.trn file.

I do not recall ever using a <number>.trn file before. They are different since the latter is missing a ton of information likely required to be used as an initial condition.

I tried using the _full.trn file, but he still told me:
A valid initial values file is required for the run. ansys cfx initial values file 5100_full.trn does not exist

you can use .res and .bak filles since they contain a mesh. .trn-files not.

Why not use a back-up file?

Just use the .res file set as the initial conditions

That means, if I'm starting the simulation from the command line, do I have to use the .res format? I can use the .trn or .bak format as an initial condition when I'm using a visual interface

You cannot use a .trn-file as initial conditions. Wasn't it clear? How often do we need to repeat?

You seem to be lost somewhere. Can you explain what you are doing and what your real problem is? Now we need to read between the lines, which is difficult.

Nevertheless, if I'm correct, it looks like you have a transient run, that crashes, and that you have only .trn-files from which you want to continue with different settings. You cannot do that. Trn-files are only for Postprocessing, e.g. for making a nice animation. You should create .bak-files. In CFX-Pre, in the same tab as where you define the .trn-file, you can set how often the solver should write Backup files. You can do it every timestep. And if you are not sure which timestep is safe to continue with, you should keep every .bak-file. But potentially, this will eat a lot of diskspace.

Then, if you run from command line, it is:

cfx5solve -def <file.def> -ini <file.bak>

or, if you have a good .res-file:

cfx5solve -def <file.def> -ini <file.res>
