Dear all,

I tried inputting symmetry in gambit for my geometry but while iterating, i stopped the iterations for a while to check if i can see the other side of my geometry by clicking the symmetry plane..i cant, in fact i can only see the symmetry plane drawn out.. Do i have to wait for the solution to converge to see the mirror image or is something wrong with my geometry?

My geometry involves sectioning of a contracting duct(3D)..thts why i have to define all the faces in one section as one symmetry plane..Is that the wrong method?. Someone plz help...Thnk you

I think you followed the right approach.

To visualise the symmetry: display--views and select your symmetry boundary as the mirror plane.

Hi.. thnx for replying...i also want to know somthing else...Do i input boundary conditions, taking the whole geometry as the domain..or do i only input boundary conditions for the symmetry only?..meaning do i half the volumtric heat flux in my annulus, now that im drawing only half the model? if not, how do i input the values..cos when i display grid i only see half the model unless i click the symmetry views.. Plz help...thk you so far for your response..

indeed, only model this half of your model. But for fluxes, you should, of course, use the same value as before. Since your volume or area is half the volume or area you had before, the total production will be half (heat production in your case)

okie..i guess you are saying that i should input the same amount of value for the volumetric heat generation as i did for ths full model... will try tht..thnx
