Hi, I've asked to a couple of members of the forum about this topic and now I want to open the discussion in order to find more people working on it. The question is:

1. Why interFoam integrates the alphaEqn using MULES (a Flux Corrected Transport based method) instead of the standard fvm operators (based on TVD)?

References will be appreciated. If I found some useful references I will post them.

Thx in advance

Greetings Santiago,

Check the links on this wiki page: http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/InterFoam
I fixed/updated most links, after I spotted that someone had tagged the page as having broken links.
Most of them are pointing to very old threads, so hopefully you can find vital information!

Best regards,
Bruno

Thanks Bruno for recalling these old threads. I read them a long time ago, but in this new reading I remembered that at the first time FOAM VOF didn't have a FCT based limiter. The first version used CICSAM I think, then interface compression appeared with gamma scheme, finally interface compression and linear term started to being solved using FCT (MULES).

My question is related with the reasons for the change.

Regards.

As for CICSAM vs. MULES+interface compression, I believe a reason was that CICSAM would tend to align the interface with the mesh, whereas the latter keeps the interface sharp in a more smart way.

On a side note: At the OpenFOAM workshop 2012 there was a talk ("Libraries for 6-DOF Motion of the Floating Body") where the presenter had implemented CICSAM and HRIC into OpenFOAM and tested all of them. My impression was that their performance was very similar.

Hey guys,

check out the ship hydro library of Eric Patterson, which I think holds both.
It should be on the workshop USB stick, but you also can find it here
http://openfoam-extend.git.sourcefor...ydroSIG;a=tree

Best regards

Kathrin

Hi!
I am also interested in the CICSAM scheme. Unfortunately, the link does not work for me... Any idea where the code can be found now?

Best wishes,
Roland

Greetings to all!

@Roland: FYI, the repository is back online and instructions for building this particular ShipHydroSIG repository can be found here: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...tml#post432934 - post #2
