Hi all,

I have a simulation that I ran with solitary wave, now, I am re-running it with combination of solitary+current flow. From the tutorials, I know how to model solitary wave and current separately, but I do not have any idea how to use them both for my model. Could anyone please help me how to put both together?

Best,
Shima

Hi Shima,

it is as easy as using the currentWaveFlume tutorial and changing the wave conditions to a solitary wave (waveType solitary; waveTheory Grimshaw; )

Best,

Pablo

Thank you Pablo.
So should I add series of wave height, period and phase that I have for my solitary wave as it showed in irregular tutorial?

Hi Shima,

Using periodic wave components to generate a solitary wave sounds weird, but yes, you need to add those is you wish so.

In the end it is only a matter of blending whichever wave conditions you desire with the waveDict in the current case. Effectively this means adding the "uCurrent (Ux Uy 0.);" line.

Best,

Pablo

Thanks Pablo,
It is working the way you suggested, but I faced a problem modeling current only by setting wave dict as:

waveType regular ;
genAbs 1;
absDir 0.0;
nPaddles 1;

uCurrent (0.02329 0. 0.);

I know it is different from the way it has in tutorial/ current wave flume, but it models regular wave in tutorial and in this part of simulation, I do not have any wave to be regular or irregular..

Could you help me through this part as well..

Best,
Shima.

Hi Shima,

select any sensible wave conditions in StokesI and set H = 0.

Take a look at the manual and reference/waveDict folder for examples and requirements to generate waves.

Best,

Pablo

Hi Pablo,

By any chance, can a fully developed current flow profile (e.g. log-low equation) be combined with wave in olaFlow?
if yes, could you please let me know how!

Kind regards,
Amir
